The Eastern Wake EMS Volunteer Program was started in July 2005. The purpose of the program is to provide Volunteers with hands-on emergency medical training, work experience at the EMS stations, training in EMS skills and volunteerism for the community.
Volunteers are required to volunteer a minimum of 24 hours per month with the department. This may be done in a variety of areas such as riding on the ambulance, helping at fundraisers and public education events. District Chiefs supervise the Volunteers when they are on-duty.
The Volunteer Program is a tremendous asset to Eastern Wake EMS. It is a great way to gain knowledge about Eastern Wake EMS, learn the basic skills of EMT’s and Paramedic’s and get support, encouragement and insight in pursuing a career in the EMS service.
Current requirements to be eligible for the Volunteer Program are:
· All applicants for volunteer membership shall be eighteen (18) years of age.
· All applicants shall possess at minimum a high school diploma or GED equivalency certificate.
· All volunteer applicants shall possess or be in the process of obtaining a minimum of Medical Responder or EMT credential from NCOEMS. Applicants must obtain their certification within a one-year period.
